Hey did you dealer put the plates on the front or were you guys able to pull off the lot with only one place to put the plate?  In Illinois at least i think you are required to have it but there is a law trying to be passed that says if the car comes without a place to put a front plate then you don't have to have one.

I don't know about Illinois, but in CA, front plates are required. I got the dealer to not drill holes in the front bumper of my tC, but ended up adding a mount after I got a ticket it for it. It was only a fix it ticket, but I didn't want the hassle w/ the xB, so I didn't ask. I think all the xBs they had on the lot already had the holes drilled, so I'd probably have to wait on a special order.

If they do, you could always get plugs & paint them w/ touch up paint... Which is what I might do. I currently have the front plate frames & mounts off of both cars since our new plates haven't come in yet. The holes are ugly, but no more so than the plates. I dig the look of the xB w/out it, so I may look for plugs. Then if I get a ticket, it won't be as big of a deal putting the plate on. With the tC, I had to drill some holes in a couple pieces of aluminum and install the mounting brackets to the lower grill that placed the plate in front of the bumper. To do that, I had to get in underneath the car, so it was a pain.

You know that many states are trying to pass law stating that two plates are no longer required. There are states that they are not required but do give you two plates. In one state I know (Utah) if the vehicle does not come with a place to put a front plate you are not required to have it on the car. In Kansas they only give you one plate.

Pennsylvania is one plate.

Thankfully my dealer did not mount the front bracket, so my bumper has no holes.

Not so the case with my Beetle way back in 2001. They put the bracket bumper-dead-center, with their own dealer logo on it. I was quite perturbed about it, but then I got over it and put  VW sing on it Smiley

my tC was pre-drilled too.  I know in CT you need both and I'm pretty sure here in NC requires it as well.

Texas requires front plates but I've never put them on any of my cars and never gotten a ticket.  As luck would have it the dealership didn't put the front plate brackets on my xB2 so it's nice and clean with no holes.  If they had drilled holes, I'd just plug them or just not put the plate on which I've seen some do.  If I get a ticket for it then the plates will go on.

you gotta let someone know that you want it that way before the xB hits the dealers lot!  they usually prep them right away and that is one of the first things they do - i told my salesperson to not drill mine but she was too late and my xB had just arrived the night before...

Nope NC is a single plate state. Always has been. They used to have blue and white plates, now there red and white yuck.
I still have my NC plate when I owned a isuzu that says GOFARTHR

I lived in Cali for 24 years. Didn't have a front license plate on ANY of my cars the whole time.... no problem. I also had an illegal tint job on my blazer and never got messed with.

Move to Oregon and within a couple months I'm pulled over for not having a front license plate.
