http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/autos_content_landing_pages/991/reliable-cars-for-unpredictable-times/

Caught this one on Yahoo this morning. Kind of funny though is that they have Toyota as  #1 on the brands to buy.

Seems rather odd...or should I say, WTF  shocked

The latest Consumer Reports Annual Auto Issue gives all three 2009 Scion models high marks.  It also ranks the '04-'08 xA, xB and xD models "much better than average", but omits the tC for these years.  There is also no data on the '07 xB for some reason.

Maybe all those tC's that are being ridden hard and put away wet are giving the brand a bad name.

Without showing the data that they are using for their survey, it isn't worth much.  Scion's are marketed to be modified and that could be the problem.  If someone replaces  equipment without know what they are doing just to obtain that certain look and a problem develops, will they face up to their mistake on a survey?

I believe who and how they are driving a car will depend on how reliable a vehicle is.   Just my opinion.

I wonder if they count trips to the dealer/shop for add-ons the same as for repairs.

THAT would explain it right there.

Well aint that just plain weird... ok i havent had mine for long but i know its been on the road for a bit more than a year and to agree whith whats been said it realy depends on the driver im still on the original stock brakes and the pads are only 30% used!!! my thought is if you drive hard you break stuff you drive soft you rust stuff its really a question of balance!   lol! naughty

There is no 2007 data because there was not a 2007 xB.  That was the year between the gen 1 and gen 2...I guess it took Toyota a year to round those corners.

Bogus is exactly right.  These surveys are based on people who respond, so it's the folks who've had problems that will take the time to mess with it.  Most of  us (20,000+miles in my 08) are too busy driving our problem free toasters to be bothered.

Articles like this one just prove how much BS the "media" outlets provide us.

Unfortunately the vast majority of people are total idiots when it comes to cars. In order to properly evaluate a vehicle, you must first understand how and why it works.

I've got almost 50k miles between a Gen I and a Gen II and I've never had a single issue or problem or warranty claim.  Nothing.
