Hi all,

My current ride (99 explorer) is trashed. I am switching to the scion! anyways, i had a d3 installed in the old ford console. now i did a quick search and i did see that someone had put in a d3. However, looking at the oem scion spot, it is much longer than the d3 is. I believe it is a double din in height, but not length. Does anyone know how to fill in that spot with something that looks flush?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This car looks great and i love how you can customize the heck out of it. Please leave some messages and even photos if possible. Can't wait to hear your thoughts

Thanks for the link and the picture. Was it hard to install? i was reading the reviews at crutchfield and they made it seem pretty hard to get it in there. I will be taking my stuff to a shop to take out and probably a shop to put in as i am a fool when it comes to DIY stuff.

Any input on a good set of HIDs? that's probably the 1st thing i want to change to my car

I did alot of reading here, scionlife, and avic411, so I did the whole installation by myself. Estimated savings is around $300.

BTW, that's an actual pics of MY headunit  Tongue

Did you have to do any cutting on your scion to make it fit? How did you remove the factory system out?

since my d3 is bypassed right now, do i need to do it again? do you think you could provide a walkthrough?

appreciate the help

its super easy, here are the pics i found on the newscionxb, so here it goes...

1.  With both hands grab firmly the black trim around the radio...

2. PULL BACK towards you, on the trim. you should feel it pop out
3. There is another small trim piece that needs to be pulled out, it is located at the bottom of the the radio.
4. There are four 10mm bolts that hold the radio in that need to be removed.
5. Once bolts are removed, the radio should pull right out!!!

Here's a PDF on how to install the factory navigation (if you had bought it with my car)

You don't have to cut anything on the Scion to make it fit. If its already bypassed by moving the mute wire, and grounding the parking wire, you don't need to do it again.

I would just follow the PDF, and install the D3 like normal

(crutchfield bracket) -> (Metal Harness in car) -> (D3) <- (Metal Harness in car) <- (crutchfield bracket)

The mode button lights up after you get the pac controller installed.

The 2 harnesses you have left from the stock radio are, steering wheel, and iPod/aux.

Once you install the pac controller, your volume up/down, track up/down, and mode button will work. Along with your purchase of the pac controller, you're going to want to get a 150 oHm resistor from Radioshack for $0.99 for the mode button to work. You'll understand why once you see the pac controller instructions

instructions from pac:
http://www.pac-audio.com/swixprogramming/showstepbystep.asp?InterfaceChecked=3&RadioGroupPioneer=0&mmSearch=Scion&Submit2=%20Search%20Vehicles&ID=386

for the programming of the pac, its very straight forward, you would just skip track up/down in favor for preset up/down

for the resistor, on the white interface wire from the pac controller, you would splice in half, with 1 half connected directly to pin7 i believe, and you would solder the resistor to the other half of the white interface wire before connecting it to pin 8.

the black wire from the pac controller connects to pin 6 black wire

resistors look like this:

here are my home made "paint" instructions:

That background comes with the RS series pioneer units. You could make it in photoshop if you want or you can create your own. Simply use a SD card or usb if you have a newer avic f series unit. with the D series I believe you have to put it on a data cd.

sorry to revive a dead post.
