hey guys,
it's been a while, but i finally found my way back to the forums.
how do you get the stock airbox snorkel off without cutting it? i read in another thread that someone took it off and then put it back on. does it just pop off?

That was me. I now have the TRD CAI.
It has 1 bolt holding up the hard plastic parts and a "pop-top" clip down in the bumper holding the tube in place. Otherwise, it literally pops right off. Looking at it, it's actually quite simple.

thanks! i'll take a look at it in the morning. i'm going to get either the trd or k&n filter and take the snorkel off. see how it goes from there, as cash is too tight for a cai.
Update:
there's a few more clips hidden away, and it's tight getting it out without removing the driver headlight, but it's out. and it's loud! ordered the k&n filter, should be here soon.

Is the snorkal the small curved piece? Or is there more to it? Can anybody post a pic of it removed?

yeah, it's the small curved plastic piece off the front of the airbox. I'll take a picture of it tonight. Here's a video I took last week with the stock air filter. I recently added the k&n drop in filter, and it's much louder than this.

I have the K&N drop in and have added the snorkle back on the box with a twist. I removed the hose section and stuck the end on the part that goes in the air box. I removed the fender vent and made it functional .Now the redo on the box snorkle it is aimed right at the open fender vent.

Neat, but be careful that you don't suck water up the "snorkel"....(as I did with my CAI...$7200 in damage caused by "hydro-lock".)

OK, Here is an off the wall question. How much cooler is the air that is taken from the location where say a TRD CAI is hooked up? If it is 100 degrees out, is it that much cooler? Now for the crazy part. What if you drew the air from inside the cabin. If you had the AC on it would be a whole lot cooler. Has this been done? Would it be that much noisier? Just kind of free thinking. So lets hear it.

My snorkle is not that low whatever the stock elbow coming out of the airbox is plus the endof the snorkle part it self. I made the decesion to do this in leiu of a cold air kit plus the interior noise without the snorkle on there was sucky.
The air intake noise was actually less with the drop in K&N than the stock paper.

I was doing this strictly to not buy a cold air kit. Its rediculous the price these folks are getting and the cabin noise you get is too much for me. I did remove the silencer part that sticks off to the side also. I get over 31 mpg on the highway with these mods so far. I will be doing something with the exhaust next car is too quiet, plus the stock exhaust seems kinda restrictive.I will do something off the wall and quiet and it will be smog legal.Muhahaaaaa !

Snorkle removed hose part taken off( cut off) part put back in air box. I Flipped the lid over and removed the purge filter media. Also I took the silencer off its the box looking deal thats right by the maf. kinda hangs between the engine and intake.
