As I have stated before (several times) I think the stock plastic grill is horribly ugly.  The Scion logo is WAY too big and the hole pattern is just WEIRD.

So, I replaced it.

I got my slat grill from Sparks yesterday.
The piece is a GORGEOUS gloss black with polished front facing. It is GORGEOUS.

Well . . .
I am unable to "leave well enough alone" . . .
So, I repainted it flat black.
Now, it coordinates and color matches the lower plastic grill.

My grill:

Dude that matches amost perfectly. You could probably attach the scion logo back on and it would look factory. I don't mind the factory grill I just hate how the upper and lower don't match. I was thinking of going a different route to get matching grills but I may just copy you. That looks so freaking cool and it will be much cheaper then the way I was going to go. Thanks for giving this a shot. definatly gives me something to think about.

That might could be arranged . . . (the m&m caps) . . .
I'll just make another set.  I have the stickers (he made me a sheet of them), all I need to get are 4 more caps and paint them red or get another can of paint in whatever color you want.
I am about to make a red/white Coca-Cola "button" set too.

As for the grill . . .
A VERY easy install. It took longer to get the stock one off than to put the new one on.

Hey Tartan you and I should get together next summer. It can be the meeting of the Jacks hehe. Since you live in familiar territory I may just drive all the way to your neck of the woods, er mountains.

Gathering at Deal's Gap?

Or even Asheville?
Lovely roads in that area . . .

Imagine a BUNCH of xB2s on top of Mt. Mitchell.  Now, THAT would be rather cool.

The folks from the mid-west could just "hop" in I-40 and come on over.  Folks from up north could take 95 or 85 to I-40 and take it west to Asheville.
Sounds good to me.

Hey sounds like a plan. We could just create our own scion event. Promote it as much as possiable and see who shows up. Make it a Gen2 Mountian Run meet. We could do it in mid spring when its warm enough for windows down, but not too hot as to need the a/c. In my opion driving through the mountains with the windows down is one of the best things ever.

i likes it a lot!  is it a direct replacement of the factory grille?  i've been working with some aluminum in the garage...trying to come up with something to replace mine...but this looks way cool...

not to be a nag, but does the spacing (between the slats) come close to the to that of the lower grille?  i'm kinda anal about things like that...the color looks spot on by the way!

1. Is a full replacement.  The factory grill is in one piece and stored.

2. That is NOT the original finish of the part, I painted it flat black.
-Sparks won't be carrying them with that finish (Jamie and I discussed that and he is going to paint his like I did.

3. As the lower grill in those picts IS the factory Scion plastic grill, judge the spacing for yourself.
The Sparks grill has a wider spacing between the horizontal slats.  It isn't enough to bother me in the slightest.
If it does, Sparks offers a lower grill:
http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=570&Part_cat=7&parts_id=2028
And side grills:
http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=570&Part_cat=7&parts_id=2029
If you want all three types, the cheaper option is to get the 4-piece set-> both upper and lower main grills and the 2 side grills.  http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=570&Part_cat=7&parts_id=2030

Also, the original finish is a BEAUTIFUL gloss black on everything but the front facing, which is polished.

So here's the trick question of the day...

Do you happen to remember what brand and color paint you used to match so closely?

Hardware store brand flat black.
Satin would have been ideal, but they didn't have it in satin.  Flats vary from a very flat to a satin.
I got it from a True Value.
I'd probably get Krylon Satin Black, if that was available.
