Does anyone here carry a bicycle on their xb?  I'm curious what the best way to do it is.

Not really keen on a roof rack.  I was thinking more along one of those things that attaches to the lift gate with straps.  I don't know what they're called.

I need to be able to carry two bikes.

Thanks!

I haven't really looked into this, but I'd be reluctant to use one that straps onto the hatch like you'd use on a normal car's trunk. If you can install a hitch receiver, you could go the bottom mounting route - check out http://www.yakima.com ...they have some there Smiley

Some have put on a light duty hitch and then put on a bike rack. Sorry I opened this without finding pictures. Maybe someone has part #s. I do not like roof racks either and the hitch style bike rack comes off when not used.  thumbs up

Try this.

I bought a 4x8x1/2in. sheet of supper tuff foam insolation at home depot for about 10 bucks. I put the rear seats down and moved the front pass. seat forward . I cut the sheet to fit from the front seats to as far back as I could get without interferring with the hatch. I pick the bike up and shove it in there. Works like a charm and protecs the iterior from scratches and any mud or grease.

By the way I've had this car since Fri 4-25 and I really love it.

I got the hitch installed today.  Fit like a glove.  The 1.25" receiver does slightly touch the bottom of the bumper - I'll probably wrap some electrical tape around it so it doesn't mar.  It's tucked up pretty well so I don'
t think it will look ghetto.

For anyone who later searchs for this topic - FYI, you need an 18mm socket to remove two bolts.  You need a 19mm (or 3/4", but 19mm is better) socket to bolt the 6 hitch bolts down.  One of the bolts is hard to get to because the muffler is in the way - I used a wrench to get to that one.

They advise to torque down to 65 ft lbs.  Since you're bolting to the frame, I'd advise borrowing or buying a torque wrench ($60) so you don't mangle the threads.

Also, I used blue loctite although the instructions do not call for it.

Superwhite08,

>> I got the hitch installed today.  Fit like a glove.

How about uploading a photo of your hitch?

TIA,

Rusty
