We are looking to replace our 52" rear projection tv w/ an LCD. We are wanting 42" min. DH wants 1080p and a high contrast ratio. (at least 10,000:1 I think he said) We looked at Walmart, Best Buy, Sams and we were hoping to keep it at about $1500. I was wondering if anyone here has one and if so, a review? price? place you got it?
Thanks!

Well Shan, I got a Vizio 37" LCD High Definition TV and I can tell you I love it. I almost took it back and went up to the 42" which is 1080p full High Def. As it was only $1099.00 at Costco with a 2 year warranty. I spent $800.00 after tax for my 37" and I absolutely love it. The picture is so good. We even upgraded our DVD player to one that has HDMI upscaling and DVDs look so much nicer. After the TV and the new player we spent about $900.00. It was my Christmas present last year.
I looked at several models at Circuit City and Best Buy and found that the picture on those was just as good as the Vizio and in some cases the Vizio actually looked better. We compared them side by side at the retail stores before purchasing at Costco. The TV rocks, I love it and if I upgrade to a bigger screen it will be a Vizio again. I have not had any issues with mine at all. I also upgraded my cable to HD and you can tell a difference in the picture. Even my wife who is not a big TV watcher has watched more TV since we got this cause the picture is so good. Watching the food network actually makes me even hungrier now cause the picture is so crisp.
Anyways there is my review on my TV. The 42" Vizio is killer, And thats the only thing I regret about my TV is I wish I would have went bigger. Hope that helps.

thanks mrbill...vizio is one we are keeping in mind. My dad got vizio and it is very nice. Sanyo and Polaroid are a couple more (I wish Pioneer and Sony weren't so $$). We have digital cable now and would love to get the HD channels.
Is yours wall mounted? That's what I really want.

My Mom and Brother just bough new Panasonic TV's ones 42'' and I think the other was 50'' And they just love them.Im looking to buy the smaller version http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8744941&type=product&id=1205537168625 I know its a little small then what your looking for but under 1k is a pretty good deal. Im going to have to spend about 1400 though becasue of the price of getting a bracket, tax, and install ect. Im waiting till the 4th of july weekend becasue bestbuy should have a good sale going on them.

Mine is wall mountable but I don't have it mounted. Not really a place in our apartment. and you know honestly I didn't see much of a difference if any between the Vizio and the others that were right next to them. I think it was a Sony, Samsung and a Panasonic. They all looked really good and thats the reason I went with the Vizio I felt I was not sacrificing any quality or picture and spending less money.

Shancopp, Be sure to include www.crutchfield.com in your shopping. We've bought everything from stereo equipment to two large tv's (42" and 60") over the last 15 years and they're fantastic. We bought our 60" Sony for the exact same price as Bestbuy was offering only there was no sales tax and we got free in home delivery. When we bought the 42" Sony, it had something wrong with the picture tube so we called them and a week later a replacement showed up and they picked up the first one. Good luck. (P.S. just watched your DH's video...very moving and well done...and while I'm still confused about the right course of action over there I sure do thank God for guys like your DH. )

Shancopp.
I purchased a Sony Bravia 40 inch (KDL-40VL130) from Sam's about a month ago for $1295.00, This is last years model with 60 Hz, the new tv's are using 120 Hz for handling motion blurr which I haven't noticed with fast moving objects on the screen. I believe the contrast ration is something like 13000 to one, 1080p and 2 HDMI connections. Sony make a bunch of different models with the same screen size with different extras to affect the price. Mine has 2 HDMI connections, some people will need more.
We could tell which tv's were the Sony's as soon as we walked into the store, they had the best/brightest and most colorful screen. The new sets with 120 Hz run more than the old ones like I bought. Some Sam's still have the old sets left which are $600.00 less than the newer ones. What I like about Sam's Club is that you can take the tv back for a full refund within a year of purchase without any hassel.
Mine can be mounted on a wall, I didn't do that since the wires would have to be hidden inside the wall.
Good luck!

Every tv guy we've talked to has also said to stay away from plasma because they don't last. For what it's worth.....
