January 3 of this year. Minding my own business, just backing up into a driveway, when out of NOWHERE,,,

   BAM!!!!!

Drunk driver hit me right where I was sitting. Cops estimated his speed at 50, I think he was going faster.
Lifted the van up off the road and spun it nearly 180 degrees, depositing us (me and the van, I was alone)
on the next door neighbor's sidewalk. The grass you see under the car is between the sidewalk and street.
It's about 8-10 feet wide. Landed me in the emergency room, first ever ambulance ride. One broken rib
was the worst of my injuries. Still a bit sore all along my torso on the left, but not so much that I cannot get
around OK. More of an ache at this point. First week was awful rough, though. Both cars were totaled.

I am so glad I was not in my xB.

Our 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan.. love this car, it saved my life....

Dipwad that ran into me was driving a Chevy Cavalier. (2001, I think)

Please, if you have to drink, don't drive. The life you save may be mine.

Thank you. I am sorry to hear you had to have a drunk driver experience, too.

That last statement on the first post reminds me of this video . . .

Hate you had to experience that and I'm GLAD you OK (relatively speaking).

Here, if you are pulled over and found to be drinking and driving, you are arrested and put in jail until you pay a bond of 500 bucks approx.  Then you go to court and usually go back to jail for 2-4 days and pay a big fine and court costs, lose your license for 3 months, then it's restricted to work and back only for 6 months plus have to alcohol education classes and put on probation for a year.  That's for first offense.  (don't know from experience, lol!)

Been there, done that....  Asshole drunk made a left in front of me so he could pull into the drive through liquor store.  He didn't even know I T-boned him until the guy in the drive through window pointed it out to him.  I wasn't speeding or doing anything wrong, but I nearly lost my life because of someone else being a douche.  Angry

Glad you are going to be OK though, hope this douche was well insured and you get what is coming to you.

wow.. seems like pretty much nobody is immune from the irresponsibillity of others. I hope you've recovered fully.

Insured he is, we found out about a week after the accident. Today marks one entire month I have missed work.
I do get 75% of my base pay, so that helps a lot. Still missing about 13 hours pay a week, plus any overtime. And before
I went out, there was a whole bunch of it.

Gonna try to sue his pants off. Maybe keep him off the road for a while, and certainly make him think.

Hope that you get well soon!

A drunk driver will have a hard time learning any lessions.  A drunk will probably be dependend on having that next drink, and when that happens their mind isn't going to be making any sound decisions.

If the states/cities want to stop a drunk from driving drunk, they will have to lock them up so they don't have access to alcohol.  Drinking has become a national passtime, just tune into this weekends Super Bowl to get a look at these people when alcohol take over their mind.

Good luck.

my mother was in a really bad car accident over the summer (hit while in a crosswalk by someone who ran a light) and also broke ribs.  she missed about 6 weeks of work - but her car insurance covered it (even though she wasn't in a vehicle at the time!).  Between your car insurance and his, you should be able to get at least 100% base pay....and if that isn't happening, you definitely need to sue for lost wages (+pain/suffering, etc).  You shouldn't be losing money because the other guy was a..............yeah.

My mother chose not to sue because she got her base pay, and didn't want to deal with it (plus the lady who hit her looked poor - we were lucky she had insurance)....and the lady's car insurance ended up giving my mother a nice sized check at the end of it for pain/suffering anyways!  guess sometimes things work out.
