Forbes Names Top Gas-Guzzling Auto
What autos are the least fuel efficient? It turns out that the cars that'll take a bite out of your budget for fuel costs are also likely to catch some stares of admiration as they're tearing up the road. And those family-focused haulers can also take a chunk out of our income if you find yourself behind the wheel often.
Forbes.com has compiled a list of the least fuel efficient autos, based on data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
If you park a Jeep Grand Cherokee in your garage, you probably spend quite a bit at the local gas station. The V8 version of this auto gets a mere 11 miles per gallon on city streets and only 14 miles per gallon while on the highway.
Owners of the Ford Explorer, Mercury Mountaineer or Chrysler Aspen are also in a similar situation, thanks fuel efficiency rates that are comparable to those of the Grand Cherokee.
Station wagons can be just as thirsty as SUVs, as demonstrated by the Audi S4 Avant. This roomy, snappy auto gets only 14 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway.
High-end luxury autos are notorious for being gas-guzzlers. The Lamborghini Murciélago claims a mere 9 miles per gallon in the city.
Ferrari's 599 GTB Fiorano coupe is a beautiful auto with a price tag in the six-figures. It's fuel bill will also run steep, as the vehicle gets a meager 11 miles per gallon on city streets.
The Rolls Royce Phantom claims 13 miles per gallon in the city. Rolls Royce's spokesperson is quick to point out that the auto gets 19 miles per gallon on the highway.
Drivers are looking for luxury and space, two aspects of an automobile that seem to go hand-in-hand with these gas-guzzling autos.
