Based on problems per 100 vehicles, Scion ranked well below the industry average in the 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study by J.D. Power and Associates. Toyota and Lexus; however, were near the top of the list, well above the average. (higher on list = fewer problems)

Interesting.  The way I read it the survey is based on three year old models (2006).  Have to wait until 2012 to see how the '09's make out.

I expect Scion to do better next year... The tCs had two or three TSBs during that time, so that probably impacted the entire line.

Yeah, I'd like to know the specifics.  This contradicts Consumer Reports 2009 Annual Auto Issue which rates all Scion models for all years as "much better than average".  The '04-'06 xB gets dinged for "paint/trim" issues, but everything else is better/much better than average.  Even the tC has good ratings although the '05 (first year) model had paint/trim/body hardware problems...probably from ground effects kits that the youngsters tack-on falling off on speed bumps.
