1  Technical & Styling / Wheels & Tires / Re: Taller tire without taller rim? on: March 27, 2008, 09:27:24 PM
Swagfu, I understand, stuffing the wheel wells.  I personally don't think going with two different size tires on the 08 xB will do much for it in any way including looks.  When you start playing with different size tires on the front vs rear you also change the handling.  The old muscle cars were heavy in the front and rear wheel drive and the weight transfered to the rear under hard acceleration.  The bigger tires were helpful there and did look good.  On a front wheel drive car I think it looks silly.  The rear is already jacked up from the factory with a lot of space around the wheel.  Another problem with running two different size tires is it prevents you from rotating your tires from front to rear every 5,000 miles as recommended.  I don't know where you live but if you get much rain and want a great handling tire that is quieter and has a long life I would go with the Michelin Hydroedge.  This is the tire I will be getting in a 225/60-16.  It is 26.5" tall compared to the stock Bridgestone with a hight of 24.9" or 25".  This will give you 3/4" more tire in the wheel well and raise the car 3/4".  They also make the tire in a 235/60-16 with a hight of 26.9" tall but I personally think this is too much tire for the car.  A good source of tires is the Tire Rack,  http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp  they are one of our sponsors too.  You can look at their tires and read the reviews and compare the different tires all on their website.  The front of the 08 xB is too low for me, 5.1" when new.  I am always hitting the front of my car on those cement parking lot stops.  I also drive in Mexico and on other poor roads and on the back roads where the extra clearance would help a lot.  As far as the speed error I don't know if there is a way to recalculate it or not.  I have the auto transmission and with only a few hundred miles on stock tires my speed was one MPH fast.  I happen to drive through four of those check your speed radar units using cruse control and every time it was one MPH fast.  Going with a little taller tire will change the speedo error in the opposite direction.  You will now be going faster than indicated by 1-2 MPH with new tires.   Just my thoughts.

Al

Thanks for the input Al. I will take it all into consideration. I am in no hurry as my tires are still brand new of course, but would like to do something by the end of summer. I do get alot of rain as I live near Daytona Beach. I will look at the michelin. I have always liked them. Thanks again
2  Technical & Styling / Wheels & Tires / Taller tire without taller rim? on: March 05, 2008, 11:00:50 PM
I am an old school muscle car kind of guy. I would like to put a taller tire on my car. Instead of 205/55r16, I would like to have something like 225/60r16 in the rear and 215/60r16 in the front.....would they fit? My goal is to fill the tire well without going to a larger wheel or lowering the car. Any advice on wheels and tires for me? How wide and tall can I go basically without any modification?

Also, can the speedo be recalibrated to the new tire size? I really don't want to change rims, but understand that in order to accomplish my goal, I may have to. I have the factory Enkei's on there now. Anyone know the offset for those?

Ok, both of these were great. However, I am an old school muscle car kind of guy. I would like to put a taller tire on my car. Instead of 205/55r16, I would like to have something like 225/60r16 in the rear and 215/60r16 in the front.....would they fit? Sorry it took me so long to get back fellas.

1. it is about perfect here this time of year. low 80's mid to high 70s everyday. little rain here and there. (Daytona area)
2. these are wheels from the dealership. they are 16" Enkei's. I think they were only $700 or so. not bad for dealer money. But I had some issues at the dealer and they gave me the wheels and the floormats for free......Is it ever really free though?
3. I think the tire size is a factory 205/55 16. I am not 100% on that though.

I am thinking of putting a little taller tire on. Maybe some 215/60's or something. I don't want a bigger rim, but would like a more full wheel well. Do you guys think that would fit?

Thanks for the compliments

Thanks for the replies fellas. Mine is a Blackberry Crush color. Pretty cool looking.

As far as the drop, I don't want to give up much in the way of ride. And I am not too concerned about matched parts as far as the sway bars go. My biggest concern right now is finding someone loval that can do the work for me. I do not have the place or the time to do it. I could probably do it myself if I had a place and time. I did see some cold air intakes on ebay. Are they worth it? And what about those little chips that say they can you more mpg and hp? Do they really work? For $10, wouldn't everyone get it? I didn't mention it earlier, but this is only my 1st week with the car. I have been impressed so far.

Anyone in my local area on here?

Hi guys,
This is my first post. I have read a bunch on here, but didn't feel a need to respond just yet. I just bought a 08 Xb and love it. However, I am considering my options as to what to do to the car. I came across this post and thought it was great.

Here is my question...how do I know which spring to go with? I don't plan on changing my wheels from the factory size. I do however think I would like front and rear sway bars and maybe a strut brace.

Any recommendations? Also, I live in the Daytona/Deland area and really have no idea where to go to get any of this done. Any ideas on where I can go?

Great site. Thanks
