yeah, you have to take out the battery, so it can go in, so it was disconnected. should I try disconnecting the battery again?

I got mine installed. but I have a question about the rpms: The engine sounds like it's about to die when it's idling, is that common? the rpms will drop between 5 and 6.
Could it be that the battery was not disconnected during the install...not a likely thing...but if this was the case the computer may not have re-calibrated for the CAI.
I have the Fujita CAI and have no problems. Other than that, check to see that everything is hooked up and secured per the installation instructions.

I really hate to disconnect my battery anymore, the mods I've made result in an annoying and drawnout re-learn. The ECU eventually sorts it out, but it's a real hassle getting there. If at all practical, I leave the battery connected (main concern, of course, being the airbags).

I installed my TRD CAI this weekend- love the sound and power. It was easy to install. However, on two separate occasions, the car would not start, no dash lights no CEL. I opened the hood made sure everything was connected, closed the hood and the car started right up.
Any thoughts?

What did you do to get it started? Did you "fix" anything?

I popped the hood, pushed around on the battery, but everything looked fine, got in, it started.

The symptoms would indicate an electrical problem, perhaps when the battery was removed for the CAI installation one of the battery terminals was stressed internally....when "pushed around" the connection was reestablished hence the car starting...that is assuming that the external connections are tight.

I thought it was an electrical issue and checked the terminal connections- they were tight.

Here is the thing...it is possible, when removing/installing the battery cables that if the battery post is "twisted" to cause a poor or intermittent connection inside the battery case which could result in "intermittent" start problems....also check the negative cable for a good ground connection as this could also cause the problem.

I checked the ground connection, it was a little loose. Thanks for the advice.

If the idle has not returned to normal check for good connections on the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) and that the factory cam cover breather hose is secure...if unsure of what and where these are, check your installation instructions if you do not have the instructions , go to Sparks Toyota on-line for the TRD CAI pdf installation instructions.
I have a Fujita CAI and have never had a problem...and you shouldn't be having idle problems if the installation is good.
Hope some of this helps.../Brewski

While we are on the topic of the TRD CAI, or other intakes for that matter (Fujita, Secret Weapon, K&N, etc.), I have a question... My understanding is that any CAI will add noise. Is most of that noise outside the car, inside the car, or both? I like my xB to be pretty quiet, but I don't mind a little extra sound.

The TRC CAI will add noise, but only when you are on it. If you drive like a sane person (
) it shouldn't be too bad.

Same for the Fujita CAI the cabin noise is no greater except when under "moderate to hard" acceleration. Once up to speed I can't sense any additional noise...keep in mind that the intake is lower, thus farther from the cabin than stock which, even with the increased air flow, nagates the noise. The same can not be said for a "short" CAI system.
